Yanumoja Yoga Level 1 Teacher Training

Yanumoja Yoga Teacher Training...

Yanumoja Yoga teacher training is directly based in the principles of Yanumoja Yoga. It is a deep inquiry into yoga as a practice and tradition, into Tantric philosophy, and most importantly, into oneself. Technical skills that are acquired in practice and training are tools for self-discovery, and are thus viewed as secondary to the actual process of self-growth and awareness.

Notwithstanding, the technical skills are of great importance in the ability to deliver material cohesively, safely and effectively. Thus, extensive time is spent in practice and theoretical studies of various techniques, from the skills of teaching, to techniques of yoga (asana, pranayama, meditation, chanting).

Yanumoja is an approach to yoga based in healing and developing the spirit through using tools of mind, heart and body. Thus, teacher training is organized similarly – it is a year-long experiential journey of self-healing and development. Homework and reading is designed to stimulate the unfolding of yoga within oneself, as well as to guide in skill development.

Yanumoja teacher training has been offered since 1998. Currently taught as a mixture of private and supervised studies, students are given the opportunity to have valued individual instruction. Both 200-hour training and advanced teacher training are approached with the intent to explore and hone the unique skills and interests of each student-teacher while engaging in an intensely personal journey of growth and healing.

Level 1, 200hrs

Student-teachers are asked to complete all theoretical training within 1 year of the start-date, and are asked to complete all requirements (including practicums and exam) within 2 years of beginning the program.

Students must have been practicing yoga (any style) with a teacher for a minimum of 1 year before applying for the teacher-training program, along with having attended a minimum of 15 Yanumoja Yoga classes. Student-teachers are expected to maintain a personal practice and on-going classes during (and following) their training period. This course includes extensive reading, written homework assignments, practical teaching requirements (45 hours), peer-assessment, and a written exam.
