~ Yanumoja Yoga Teacher Training Advanced ~ YYTT-Advanced 300-hours

**Qualifies you for Yoga Alliance 500-Hour Recognition.

What makes this training unique

This program is a unique and intensive approach to the therapeutic application of yoga techniques. What distinguishes this training from others is its commitment to a core of understanding and knowledge in the diagnostics and therapeutics involved in Yogic energetic healing. This in-depth training is an opportunity to deepen your current work as you specialize and focus your studies and skills in the areas of yoga and yogatherapy.

Teachers training to work in a yogatherapy setting have the opportunity to understand how and why various symptoms and conditions arise, how to assess these conditions from yogic energetic models, and what to do in response. No two people will exhibit the exact same symptoms and energetic imbalances, even if they share the same condition. Having a depth of knowledge regarding diagnostics and the process of wellness, imbalance and disease is thus a critical skill.

While having a general understanding of various conditions and possible responses is useful in designing classes to work with different populations, teachers must also be trained in meeting the unique needs of each individual for a given condition. This is where true therapy begins. Understanding the energetics involved in all the techniques and limbs of yoga is essential to understanding their therapeutic applications.

During the program, you will
• Have an opportunity to practice your skills by specializing in one condition or population of choice
• Expand your knowledge of techniques, philosophy, energetic anatomy, culture and history
• have a unique opportunity to study Marma (Indian Acupoints) and Thai Massage as they relate to yoga teaching skills and Yogatherapy

After graduating from this program, you will have

• Greater depth, creativity and flexibility in your skills
• An understanding of imbalances and disease processes on all levels – physically, mentally and emotionally, spiritually, energetically
• Skills in diagnostics
• An understanding of the energetics related to various yogic techniques and their therapeutic applications

Yoga Alliance 500-Hour Recognition

YogaFor students looking for Yoga Alliance (YA) certification, or recognition with the International Association of Yogatherapy (IAYT), these courses fulfil the standards for both organizations. IAYT requires practitioners to have a minimum of 500-hours of training (200-hours basic and 300-hours advanced teacher training; or 200-hours basic teacher training and 300-hours in any other healing modality). YA requires 200-hour basic teacher training + 300-hour advanced to qualify for 500-hour recognition. (Please note that you will be applying to YA through “independent studies” in order to receive recognition.)

Presented in modules, you have the opportunity to attend some or all of the training. This offers you a range of options from personal to professional development or full certification, as your needs require.

Program Modules

Module 1- Workshops (170 Contact Hours)
Module 2- Internship (130 Non-Contact Hours)

Module 1: Workshops (170 Contact Hours)
The following workshops are required studies for full certification.

• Health, Disease and Wellbeing (44-hours)
Overview of health and disease processes following Eastern energetic models.

- Physical processes: Ayurvedic stages and pathways of disease; injuries and vayus
-
Psychological (mental and emotional) processes: Koshas, addictions and trauma; Koshas and imbalances – manifestations in chakras; cells and cell patterning as it relates to stress, imbalances, and trauma; rajas, tamas, sattva and psychology; developmental theory

• Philosophy and Culture (14-hours)
This weekend is an opportunity to deepen our understanding of yogic philosophy, history and Indian culture. Lectures by the teacher-trainer will be supplemented by peer presentations of projects related to their field of specialization.

• Workshop Presentations (28-hours)
Students will be studying and working with specific conditions and populations as part of their assignments. They are required to develop a 3 hour workshop to be presented to their peers and supervisor detailing the diagnostics and therapeutics of the condition, how they would approach yogatherapy sessions with the population, as well as presenting a class designed for this population.

Module 2: Internship (130 Non-Contact Hours)
Students enrolled in the full 300-hour program will be required to complete the following practical and research assignments as their Internship. Some projects will culminate in peer presentations (as noted above in Module 1: Philosophy and Culture, as well as Workshop Presentations):

  • Following completion of Health, Disease and Wellbeing Module, you will choose a specific condition and population of focus. You will develop a full research paper detailing the condition, the diagnostic analysis and therapeutic techniques and approaches for this population (minimum of 15 typed pages). You will present this research within a 3-hour workshop as part of your final exam (see Workshop Presentations).
  • You will write and present two papers (5 typed pages each), chosen from the following (you will need to submit your topics for approval):

    - Yogic History: Individual research into the history of yoga, with a focus on some aspect of yoga that is of personal interest to you.

    • - 8 Limbs: Research paper exploring, in-depth, one limb / aspect of Yoga practice. You are expected to conduct both theoretical and practical research into the topic and present this topic to peers. Please deepen and expand on your current knowledge. For example, if you choose "meditation" you may want to attend some courses in meditation (Zen, Buddhist or Vipasana) that you have not done before.

      - Indian Cultural Project: Individual and creative research into an aspect of Indian culture (this can be wide ranging, from cultural beliefs and practices, to food, to some other aspect of Indian culture that interests you.

You will work with the teacher-trainer to develop appropriate intake and feedback forms.
